How to Crochet a Statement Necklace

Using a metallic thread, learn the basic crochet stitches needed to create a variety of beads and charms, then attach them to a gorgeous ribbon to complete this fabulous statement necklace. We will cast on using the magic ring method. I will show you step by step how this sometimes tricky to learn technique can be easily achieved. We will then continue with a basic single crochet and using simple increases and decreases to shape the work, we will make beads of various shapes and sizes. To complete this lovely piece, we will arrange the individual beads and charm to look their best and attach them securely to the matching ribbon. So, there you have it, a statement necklace to be proud of, made from yarn using a crochet hook, and not a granny square in sight. Shibori Jewelry Polymer Clay Project

Shibori is a Japanese textile folding technique. After folding, pigments are added to the textiles, giving several beautiful results, according to the folding way. In the jewelry world the most known Shibori technique is a way to fold and pleat silk ribbons, dyed earlier to this reason. The folded ribbon is sewed on a piece of felt (background shape) and the piece is then decorated with rhinestones, stones and cabochons, seed beads, pearls etc. usually sewed too on the felt basis giving an awesome and rich result. In this class we will replace the silk ribbon with a polymer clay ribbon looking piece, creating eye catching jewelry pieces.

We will concentrate on the mixing and use of the resin itself, coloring, and adding embellishments to be seen through the translucent resin.  Everything from shells, beads, charms, and more can be used to create an exceptionally interesting piece. When you add in the infinite choices you’ll have when you form your own tiny inclusions from polymer, the possibilities are really endless! The Pirates’ Treasure

My statement pieces are designed for the woman who knows who she is and wants the world to know it too. The Pirates’ Treasure tells a story.  It tells of a sea-worn treasure chest buried near the ocean, an ancient weathered map to this unknown treasure, and the tentacle-encrusted key that will open the prize.  It’s a story for the romantic swashbuckler in us all. The piece is made of polymer clay. The embellishing is what makes it a stand-out. We will use metal coatings and patinas and dyes, as well as a process referred to as cold-enameling, along with pastels. There is no limit to where you can take this design! If you’d prefer a more simple work of wearable art, the piece can be broken down into two or three separate pendants to wear as you like.  Each one will be interesting and attractive as a stand-alone.
